First birthday parties are a right of passage for all new mums. They’re not just a celebration of your baby turning one, but also a time to celebrate making it through that first year of motherhood!

First time mum Matikka recently threw this beautiful first birthday party for her gorgeous little one Everly, and it was everything a first birthday party should be. Pretty, full of love and most importantly attended by all the people that love Everly most!

I asked Matikka to tell us a little about what her inspiration was for Everly’s pretty party.
For Everly’s party I didn’t have a theme or any real direction in what I wanted, I just knew I wanted it to be pretty! I went with pink and gold decorations where possible. The balloons we ordered from Big W Party Shop, the tassel bunting I made myself and for the lolly buffet I collected coffee jars and added a touch of ribbon, with all the lollies ordered online from Candy Time.
The floral ‘ONE’ backdrop was inspired by the gorgeous version that Sophie Guidolin made for her twins’ first birthday.  My amazing Mother-in-law made it for me after I showed her a photo of it. We collected all the vines from the King Kong sales stores and the flowers we bought on eBay. Then my husband simply twisted up some wire into the letter and it all came together perfectly from there.
For entertainment Matikka had two jumping castles for the little ones and what she referred to as a ‘hilarious mini pinata. “I now know when ordering online that mini… literally means MINI!!’
Her favourite part of the party was by far the overall feeling of the day ‘ Favourite thing about the party? I would have to say the atmosphere, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, the children where all fantastic and had plenty of fun and most of all I really loved having all our closest friends and family there to celebrate.’
